Boredom

1 minute read

I have had very little time lately, so this one will be short. I feel as though boredom is something that we try to avoid. It's the reason we waste so much time on fruitless activities, such as doomscrolling. We do these things to avoid that horrible feeling, that feeling of your brain nagging you to do something dopaminergic.

Sagacity

But boredom breeds creativity, as you may have heard. Stifling boredom and distracting yourself also stifles creative thought. In our modern society, we are very rarely bored. We listen to music while walking, exercising, or while in the car. The problem that we create is that we can tolerate boredom less, and we become dependent on these engaging activities while performing less engaging activities.

Overall, I just wanted to throw a few thoughts out there. It sometimes feels like boredom is comparable to hunger; you nag yourself more and more to do something when you refrain from it more and more. It's interesting in the way that, while hunger can kill you, boredom pretty much cannot, but it seems equally as painful. While boredom is far from a severe issue, a healthy dose here and there certainly won't hurt.
